BackerPacker does not collect your data. There is no analytics, no advertising, no behavioural tracking and no third-party software development kit in the app. Nobody working on BackerPacker can see what you enter.
Everything you enter is stored on your iPhone, inside BackerPacker. There's no account and no BackerPacker server, and the app doesn't copy your trips to iCloud or anywhere else.
For each trip, BackerPacker keeps your passport country, your home currency, the money you said was left, and the date you need to be home by if you gave one. It keeps your stops, with their countries, cities, dates and the days on each passport stamp, and your spends, with their amounts, currencies, kinds and notes. It also keeps the lines you write in the journal and the last exchange rates it downloaded.
If you allow location, BackerPacker checks which country you're in when you open the app. It keeps the country and city of a stop and nothing else. It never records a trail of where you've been and never uses location in the background.
If you allow photos, the journal looks up the photos you took on each day and shows them from your own library. "Fill in from my photos" reads only the place and date of your photos to suggest stops. Nothing is copied out of your library, stored by the app or uploaded.
Visa reminders are notifications scheduled on your iPhone. They say how many days are left and the date of your last day.
Exchange rates come from ExchangeRate-API. The request asks for today's rates in US dollars and carries nothing about you or your spending. Like any website, the service can see the internet address the request comes from.
Maps, and turning a place into a country and city, come from Apple Maps. Apple receives the places it's asked about, under Apple's privacy policy.
Purchases are handled by Apple. BackerPacker never sees your payment details. The app uses verified purchase records from Apple to check whether Plus is switched on.
Settings in BackerPacker has a "Delete all data" control that removes every trip, stop, spend and journal line, the stored exchange rates and any scheduled reminders. Your photos aren't touched. Deleting the app also removes its local data.
The controller of any personal data described here is Joao Vitor Humenhuk Achutti, a sole trader, 38 Allenby Street, Tel Aviv-Jaffa 6332512, Israel. You can ask what is held, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or complain, by writing to backerpacker@humenhuk.com. You can also complain to the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority or to the data protection authority where you live.
